Requirements for Penn State International Law Review

The Penn State International Law Review selects candidates from the first-year class following a summer casenote competition, which takes place immediately after first-year class exams end. Candidates must also satisfactorily complete in their second year one of the following International or Comparative law courses: Comparative Constitutional Law, Comparative Law Seminar, Cross-Boarder Legal Practice Seminar, European Union Law Seminar, International Law, International Commercial Arbitration, International Commercial Litigation or International Organizations.

After selection, new International Law Review members must write a Comment of publishable quality during the Fall Semester of their second year. Once a Comment is deemed publishable, the second-year class student receives two (2) credits for International Law Review membership during the Spring Semester. A number of second-year class members’ Comments will be selected for publication in the International Law Review. Second-year class members will also assist with cite checking and proofreading Articles that will be published in the International Law Review. Senior Editors on International Law Review (who are not Board Members) serve as secondary advisors to second-year members. Additionally, third-year class members will also be responsible for cite checking and proofreading Articles and Comments for publication. The Senior Editors receive one (1) credit per semester for their membership on International Law Review. In the Spring Semester, second-year class members may submit a personal statement for a third-year position on the International Law Review Editorial Board and are selected through an interview process conducted by the outgoing Board. Senior Editorial Board Members receive two (2) credits per semester for fulfilling their responsibilities.
