International Sustainable Development Projects Clinic

MashavuMashavu (“chubby-cheeked” in Swahili) is a telemedicine system that connects rural Kenyans with medical professionals hundreds of miles away. Using relatively simple and affordable — yet innovative — technology, Mashavu allows medical professionals in remote locations access to a rural patient’s medical history, current vital signs, and other physiologic measures. A feat that ordinarily involved up to two days of travel (time away from work and family) and significant expense, can be accomplished by Mashavu in less than twenty minutes, at a fraction of the cost. By bridging geographical and social gaps, Mashavu helps provide dependable healthcare access to people in rural Kenya. This ongoing pilot program is a partnership with UNIDO and the Kenyan Ministry of Health.
