Voting Rights experts to discuss implications of Voter I.D. Laws

A panel of experts including members of the legal and media communities will examine enforcement of new voter identification laws across the nation, the myths and realities of voter fraud, and the allegations that voter ID laws contribute to voter disenfranchisement at Penn State Law on Friday, October 19 from 9:30 a.m. until noon. “For the current Presidential election, the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court enjoined enforcement of Act 18, the Pennsylvania Voter I.D. Law requiring photo identification, but the national trend toward stricter voter identification laws is unlikely to abate,” said Penn State Law student Telecia Rose '13, a member of the executive board of the National  Black Law Student Association.

Participants include Stanley Brand, Penn State Law Distinguished Fellow in Law and Government; Former Senator and Lt. Governor Robert Jubelirer,  Suzanne Gamboa, Associated Press; Meridith McCoy, Voting Rights Fellow, Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law; Penn State Law Professor Jill Engle, Andrew Hoover, Legislative Director, ACLU of Pennsylvania; and Penn State Law Professors Michael Foreman and Shoba Sivaprasad Wadhia who will moderate the panels.
