Steve Brogan summers at Drinker, Biddle, and Reath LLP in Philadelphia

Steve Brogan is spending his second consecutive summer in Philadelphia at Drinker, Biddle and Reath LLP. Each year, Drinker Biddle selects a group of law students to their summer associate program. As a summer associate, Brogan undergoes rigorous training as well as practical client project experience. Drinker Biddle is comprised of 650 lawyers in 11 offices in the United States.

“I’m thrilled to be here,” said Brogan, who is also executive articles editor of the Penn State Law Review. “Coming to a big firm as a student, I had anxiety at first, but that went away very quickly.”

Brogan’s practical experience at the firm covers a variety of different areas — corporate and litigation research assignments, freedom of expression issues, and insurance law issues. In particular, he’s researched “the nuances of class action certification and the interplay between immigration law and the Affordable Care Act.”

Although Brogan’s hard work in law school played a key role, he didn’t land this job because of academic success alone.

“Penn State Law's Career Planning and Development Office (CPDO) provided me with the resources necessary to conduct a focused and successful networking and job campaign,” he said. “Through the CPDO mentor program and Penn State University's alumni network, I was able to build relationships in Philadelphia that I expect to continue to help me shape my career for years to come.”

Prior to his summer associate positions at Drinker Biddle, Brogan interned for the Hon. Kim R. Gibson '75 of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and for Judge Renee Cohn Jubelirer of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania. Before pursuing a legal career, Brogan was a communications administrator at the Vanguard Group. After law school, he hopes to clerk for a federal judge or go into litigation.
