Penn State Dickinson Students Place Second in Annual Softball Tournament
Law School sluggers competed in the 25th Annual UVA Law School Softball Tournament in Charlottesville, Virginia on April 4-6. One
Penn State Dickinson team won second place, while Kate Flynn '08, who hails from Reston, Virginia, became the second Penn
State Dickinson student to win the homerun derby, after Bryan Probst, Class of 2002.
The Law School sent three men's teams and one co-rec team to the contest. With 64 teams in the co-rec division and 48 teams in the men's division, competition was fierce. The co-rec team placed first in its four-team, round-robin, winning all three of its games.
The weather provided additional challenges for competing teams on Sunday. After hours of rain, only two of the dozen fields
were playable. The tournament directors narrowed the field to only the pod winners for single-elimination, thirty-minute,
one-pitch-per-batter games.
After eliminating Baltimore, Fordham, and UVA Gold, Penn State's co-rec team advanced to the championship game where they battled Florida Coastal, the defending tournament champions, in a regulation, seven-inning game. In the hard fought contest, Florida Coastal came out on top.
The team's second-place finish this year is Penn State Dickinson's best co-rec finish in the tournament and the fourth time a Penn State Dickinson team finished second in the tournament. The Penn State Dickinson men's team won first place in 2001. Professor Harvey Feldman has played on all of those teams.
Members of the co-rec team are Elizabeth Baron, Chris Botto, Kevin Cummings, Kate Flynn, Mark Kaisoglus, Baker Kensinger,
Terry Kerwin, Mike Kula, Jeff Lawrence, Katrina Shank, Tarah Toohil, Jennifer Vantucci, Brandon Ingraham, Billy Stokes,
Allison Weber, and Professor Feldman.
Students interested in joining a team next year should contact Brandon Ingraham at bci107@psu.edu or Professor Feldman at haf3@psu.edu.
