Penn State Dickinson School of Law Inclement Weather Plan

A. Procedure During the Course of the Semester and Prior to the Start of the Exam Period

DELAY — If either our University Park or Carlisle location has a two-hour delay due to inclement weather, we will be following the University's policy, which is to cancel all classes with start times before 10:00 a.m. at both Carlisle and University Park:

  • If it is a Monday, Wednesday or Friday the first class would start at 10:10 a.m. at both Carlisle and University Park

  • If it is a Tuesday or Thursday the first class would start at 11:15 a.m. at both Carlisle and University Park

  • Local shuttle schedule in Carlisle:

    • If it is a Monday, Wednesday or Friday, the first shuttle would leave Trickett at 9:30 a.m.

    • If it is a Tuesday or Thursday, the first shuttle would leave Trickett at 10:35 a.m.

CANCELLATION — If either our University Park or Carlisle location cancels classes due to inclement weather:

  • Classes scheduled at both locations via an A/V telecommunications link will be canceled on both ends, regardless if one location is open.

  • Classes that are held only at the closed location would be canceled, while classes held only at the open location would be held (e.g., First-year required classes).

Scheduling make-up classes will be handled the same way as faculty absences, with the faculty first determining if a make-up is needed and, if so, using the procedure in the faculty/staff handbook.

At University Park, faculty, students, and staff should consult: http://live.psu.edu/ or http://www.wpsu.org/closings.htm. A text message of any delay or closing at University Park will be sent to all cell phones of faculty, staff and students who have enrolled in the PSUTXT service at http://newswires.psu.edu/online.

At Carlisle, there are the following four ways to check for notification of delays or cancellations.

  1. Check your cell phone for a text message if you have enrolled in the PSUTXT service at http://newswires.psu.edu/ online.
  2. Check your email for a message sent to all Carlisle students, faculty or staff.
  3. Tune in to any of the following television or radio stations and listen for announcements:
Television: CBS – WHP Channel 21
WHTM Channel 27
WGAL Channel 8
WPMT Fox 43
WLYH Channel 15
Radio: WHP Talk Radio 580
WRVV 97.3 FM
WNNK 104 FM
WIOO 1000 AM
WHYL 960 AM
WITF 89.5 FM
BOB 94.9

4. Check the following web sites maintained by the radio and television stations:

B. Procedure During the Exam Period

During the exam period, both University Park and Carlisle locations will follow this procedure, regardless of differences in weather conditions between the two venues:

In the case of a two hour delay, exams for that day would be delayed by two hours rather than rescheduled. In the case of a campus closure, exams will be rescheduled for the next closest day that would not create conflicts (e.g., for a Saturday during the exam period when no other exams are scheduled).
