'Deadly Spin' author to visit Penn State Law
August 11, 2011
Health insurance industry critic Wendell Potter will speak at Penn State Law on September 20. The public is welcome.
“We are so pleased to welcome one of the key players in the health insurance debate,” said Professor Camille Marion who co-directs the Center for Government Law and Public Policy Studies. “Potter’s talk should be thought provoking for lawyers, physicians, and future policy professionals.”
Potter rose to national prominence in 2009 when he testified before the Senate Commerce, Science and Technology Committee about deceptive insurance industry practices designed to boost profits—practices that also resulted in millions of people being uninsured.
Potter is the author of Deadly Spin: an Insurance Company Insider Speaks Out on How Corporate PR is Killing Health Care and Deceiving Americans (2010). A book signing will follow his presentation. Kate Pickert of Time has called Deadly Spin “a gripping indictment.”
This event is co-sponsored by the Carlisle Area Health and Wellness Foundation, the Sadler Health Center Corporation, and Penn State Law’s Center for Government Law and Public Policy Studies.
The event begins at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the auditorium of Lewis Katz Hall in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and simulcast to the Greg Sutliff Auditorium in the Lewis Katz Building in University Park, PA.
