Whistleblowing
In the last five years the U.S. Department of Justice reported more than $19 billion recovered through False Claims Act cases alleging fraud against the government, including more than $12 billion recovered in cases involving health care industries. On March 20, the Law School will host "Whistleblower Laws in the 21st Century: Greater Rewards, Heightened Risks, Increased Complexity" that will examine the modern use of whistleblower laws.
The public is welcome to observe as a three-judge panel of the Pennsylvania Superior Court sits in a special argument session at Penn State Law in University Park on April 1 and 2 where they plan to hear cases involving matters of civil, criminal, and family law.
"Too Big to Fail"
Five years after regulators and the U.S. Treasury determined that it was too systematically risky to permit Citibank and Bank of America to fail, banking experts are asking whether “too big to fail” is still a threat to the U.S. economy. “Too Big to Fail” will be in the Greg Sutliff Auditorium of University Park’s Lewis Katz Building and simulcast to Room 106 of Lewis Katz Hall at the Carlisle Campus on April 11, 2014.
The Children’s Advocacy Clinic at Penn State Dickinson School of Law has been named a recipient of a 2013 Super Lawyers Pro Bono Award in recognition of their effort, innovation, leadership, and community outreach to people who are traditionally underrepresented in the legal system.
The law library is now offering students Rosetta Stone software to students in order to help build language skills.
Three joint J.D./M.I.A. degree students from Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law and School of International Affairs have been chosen to compete in the first annual Clara Barton International Humanitarian Law Competition in Washington, D.C. on March 12-15.
