Law Library Services
The library is an important tool for the entire Law School community, a commons which we must share. Students who abuse this facility and hinder the work of others will be subject to the School's Disciplinary Procedures. Repeated abuse may lead to suspension or dismissal.- LIBRARIAN HOURS: Librarians are on duty
in the library during the weeks school is in session,
Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.,
Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. During school vacations and summers, librarians
are on duty from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through
Friday.
- SMOKING, EATING, AND DRINKING ARE NOT PERMITTED
IN THE LIBRARY. If you bring food or drink
into the library, you are responsible for any
damage it may cause. Please keep the study space
you are using neat and clean.
- QUIET STUDY: We request that you help
keep the library an area of quiet study rather
than a social gathering place. Please keep conversation
to a minimum and aid us by keeping the carrels
clean and reshelving, in their proper place, any
materials that have not been checked out at the
circulation desk.
- CIRCULATION POLICIES: Circulation
policies can be found at www.libraries.psu.edu/pubinfo/lendingcode.html.
Your Law School ID card must be presented to check out materials. NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE WILL BE PERMITTED. Materials may be checked out only during regular library hours and may not be removed from the library or taken from the reserve shelves at other times. Unauthorized removal, hiding, or mutilation of books will subject the student to the school's disciplinary procedures. Library employees may inspect the books, briefcases, and effects of persons leaving the library. Students are responsible for returning to the circulation desk all books which were checked out for general circulation. During staffed hours, books should be returned by dropping them off at the circulation desk. All books returned after 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday or after 9 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m. on Saturday, should be deposited in the locked book drop outside the building. The book drop is emptied only once a day — at 8 a.m. Monday through Saturday and at 12 p.m. on Sunday. Books placed in the book drop prior to these times will be counted as being returned the previous day. Commercially-produced videotapes and DVDs must be returned directly to the circulation desk. Tapes and DVDs may NOT be returned by depositing them in the book drop.
- OVERDUE BOOKS AND FINES: Information
on overdue fines can be found at www.libraries.psu.edu/pubinfo/lendingcode.html.
Overdue notices and fine notices will be sent via e-mail; please check “My Library Account” at www.lias.psu.edu to make certain that your e-mail address and other information is correct.
- ARCHIVES: One full business day's notice
is required for access to materials located in
the archives. No archival materials will be available
on weekends.
- CARRELS AND TABLES: Carrels and tables
are not personal property. You may not claim carrel
or table space for an extended period of time
without actually occupying the seat. Carrels and
tables will be cleared of ALL unattended items
periodically throughout the day.
Only laptop computers and other study aids may be plugged into outlets in the library carrels. No appliances are permitted in the library and will be removed if discovered. No extension cords will be permitted in the library, whether in carrels or for use with laptops on tables.
- PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES:
You may borrow materials from any of the University
Libraries using your Penn State ID card. Each
library will have its own circulation rules. You
are expected to observe the rules of each library.
Failure to return materials on time to these libraries
will subject students and faculty to the penalties
in Rule 5 and the penalties imposed by the other
library.
- ASSOCIATED COLLEGE LIBRARIES OF CENTRAL
PENNSYLVANIA: The Dickinson School of Law
is a member of the ACLCP library consortium. Other
member libraries include Albright College, Alvernia
College, Bucknell University, Dickinson College,
Elizabethtown College, Franklin & Marshall College,
Gettysburg College, Harrisburg Area Community
College, Juniata College, Kutztown University,
Lebanon Valley College, Lycoming College, Messiah
College, Millersville University, Shippensburg
University, the State Library of Pennsylvania,
Susquehanna University, U.S. Army War College,
and York College of Pennsylvania. You may borrow
at any ACLCP library using your Law School ID
card. You are expected to observe the rules of
that library. Failure to return books to the lending
library will subject patrons to the penalties
in Rule 5.
- INTERLIBRARY LOAN SERVICES: Interlibrary
loan service is available to all students. If
you need materials that are not held by this library, please submit your request electronically using ILLiad. You must sign on to the system using your access ID and password. The first time you sign in, you will be required to complete your profile, including preferred pick-up location. Students are
advised to plan in advance when interlibrary loans
are anticipated, since loans from distant libraries
can take several weeks to arrive.
- CONFERENCE AND STUDY ROOMS: Several
rooms in the library are reserved at particular
times during the week for use by adjunct faculty
or for seminars. Use of study rooms for study
groups takes precedence over use by individuals.
Please vacate these rooms at appropriate times
and leave them neat and tidy.
- DICKINSON COLLEGE LIBRARY: Dickinson
College and The Dickinson School of Law have a
policy limiting the use of study space by students
of the other institution. Please refrain from
studying in the College library unless you are
using materials in its collection that are not
available at the Law School.
