TREATISES

A. LEGAL

The materials listed in this Guide include most of the publications found in the library catalog under the subject heading, Indians of North America. For materials on a specific Indian tribe, consult the subject catalog under the name of the tribe. See for example: Dakota Indians, Iroquois Indians, or Oneida Indians. To facilitate browsing through the library's Native American materials, check the shelves under these classification numbers:

To conduct a complete search of the resources in our library, do not forget to consult the Native American Law microfiche collection. This collection contains over 100 treatises that have not yet been added to the library catalog (because they were only recently received). The bibliographical catalog that accompanies the set permits browsing by author, subject, place, title, and tribe name. One copy of the Native American Collection catalog is shelved on the Reference index tables (first floor).

B. Penn State University Libraries (LIAS)

To significantly expand your search for treatises, we have ten "LIAS workstations" situated throughout the law library. Among other things, the LIAS system provides access to the Penn State University Libraries online catalog, and access to the other "Big Ten" university library catalogs, as well. Although the primary focus of these library collections is nonlegal, it is likely that they would include some materials relevant to your research. If you are unsure how to use LIAS, one of the librarians will assist you.

C. Associated College Libraries of Central Pennsylvania (ACLCP)

ACLCP is a consortium of twenty Central Pennsylvania college and university libraries. A single database comprising all of their library catalogs is available for searching over the internet. If your research encompasses political, social, economic, scientific, or nonlegal issues, this website could be quite useful. A complete list of the member libraries can be found later in this Research Guide. Because some of the libraries are located nearby, you may find relevant items that you can obtain very quickly.
