Final Exam Regulations (J.D. and LL.M.)

  1. Giving or receiving unauthorized assistance, violating these regulations, or in any other manner practicing dishonesty during an examination is prohibited and may result in expulsion from the law school.

  2. Exam numbers are assigned to students for grading purposes to assure student anonymity. Until grades are given to the Registrar's Office by the faculty, no one may reveal an assigned number to any person. Exam numbers are not used for LL.M. exams; these exams are not anonymously graded.

    Important!!!

If you choose to handwrite your exams, you must obtain your exam number from e-Lion prior to sitting for your exams. Your exam number will be used as the only identifier on your exam materials. Placing the exam number on the exam is your responsibility.  Accordingly, if you place your name on your exam or answer sheet(s), you will have waived the right to have your exam anonymously graded.

  3. Students who wish to type rather than handwrite their exam answers must be familiar with and comply with the Computer Exam Procedures. Students who begin typing their answers will not be allowed to switch to writing their exams unless they encounter a computer problem and are specifically directed to handwrite by an IIT Office staff member.

  4. During an examination, students may not have access to or consult books, notes, or other source materials or electronic devices capable of storing such materials (e.g., cell phones and hand-held wireless PDAs), except those expressly authorized by the course professor. Answer books and scratch paper shall be distributed to students by the proctor at the time of the exam. LL.M. students are permitted to use English language and/or translation dictionaries; legal dictionaries are not permitted in the exam room.

  5. Students must stop writing immediately when time is called.

  6. So as to preserve student anonymity, the Office for Student Services shall take responsibility for distributing, proctoring, and collecting exams for students who have received a disability-based exam accommodation.

  7. Occasionally, students have compelling reasons to re-schedule a scheduled exam, including, for example, an acute illness, a family emergency, or a timing conflict between two scheduled exams. Any student seeking to re-schedule a scheduled exam should be referred to the law school Registrar's Office.

  8. It is the policy of the law school not to grant any request for the re-grading of a student's examination by anyone other than the course professor who gave the exam.

  9. LL.M. exams are given time and a half (i.e. a 3 hour exam will be given 4.5 hours).
