Co-Curricular Credits
Credits may be awarded to students for performance in certain co-curricular programs. Each program is supervised by a member of the full-time faculty, who determines whether a student's performance in the program is creditworthy. Every student who intends to use credits in a co-curricular program or programs to comply with the semester minimum requirement of 12 credits is cautioned that failure to receive those credits because the faculty supervisor determines that the student's performance in the program is not creditworthy constitutes non-compliance with the school's full-time student residency requirement.
In determining compliance with the 88 credit requirement for the JD degree, no student may take more than 18 credits from the following:
- In-House Clinics
- Field Placement Clinics
- Summer Field Placement Clinics
- A course taken Pass-Fail, unless the student is enrolled in a Joint Degree Program;
- Penn State Law Review, Penn State International Law Review, Penn State Environmental Law Review, or World Arbitration and Mediation Review
- Independent Study (maximum of 4 credits)
- Writing Workshop
- Trial Moot Court Board
- Interscholastic Appellate Moot Court Team, Interscholastic Trial Moot Court Team
(maximum of 2 credits may be applied toward graduation)
- Graduate Level Credit (maximum of 6 credits for students not in an approved joint degree program)
This rule does not preclude any student from electing more than 18 credits from the listed group of courses and co-curricular activities, but the student may count only 18 such credits toward the minimum graduation requirement of 88 credits.
