Speakers Trust Meeting — Thursday, October 13, 2005

PRESENT: Charles Kane, Colleen Piker, Timothy Wachter, Michael Boland, Jessica Kusek, Emily Musser

ABSENT: Josh Parsons, Jason Reimer, Matthew Stabile, Shelly Ewalt

  1. NEW BUSINESS
    1. BLSA APPLICATION
      1. Kristi Johnson requested funding for Prof. Carol Anderson
        1. Prof. Anderson was recommended by Prof. Farrior
      2. Prof. Anderson will speak on her books
        1. Depraved and Indifferent: The History and Consequences of the Denial of Human Rights
        2. Eyes Off of the Prize,” which discusses UN influence and the involvement in the Civil Rights Movements
        3. Her current project
      3. The Trust voted unanimously to fund this event
      4. Kristi was commended for proposing an excellent funding campaign, for negotiating a great honorarium, and for completing a model fund request
        1. The Speakers Trust discussed using Kristi’s form as a model for other groups
    2. INTERNATIONAL LAW SOCIETY APPLICATION
      1. Discussion on this speaker was tabled until the ILS president can be present to answer questions
    3. PROF. ROMERO – SPEAKING NOVEMBER 9TH
      1. APLSA is hosting Prof. Romero, but does not need any funding
      2. The date only needed to be added to the speaker calendar
  2. OLD BUSINESS
    1. JOHN PODESTA
      1. Mr. Podesta has postponed his speech until next semester
    2. SHERRON WATKINS – ENRON VICE-PRESIDENT
      1. Ms. Watkins will speak on “Ethics after Enron” at 7:00 p.m. on November 8, 2005 in the Café Per Se
      2. There will be a reception and dinner at the California Café following the event
      3. Invitations have been sent to
        1. The Dickinson community
        2. Bar associations in Cumberland, York, and Dauphin counties
        3. Local businesses and chambers of commerce
        4. Cumberland County Inns of Court
        5. Business professors at local colleges
      4. The Speakers Trust is requsting sponsorships from student organizations
        1. Not a funding request
        2. Only consent to be included on the posters
        3. Encourage members to attend
  3. OPEN FORUM
    1. PENNSYLVANIA GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE, BILL SCRANTON WILL PROBABLY SPEAK AT DICKINSON DURING THE SPRING SEMESTER
    2. STILL HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM THE ADR SOCIETY
