Speakers Trust Meeting — Thursday, February 10, 2005

Present: Jens Wagner, Colleen Piker, Rakhi Patel, Charles Kane, Shelly Ewalt, Jason Reimer, Abigail Whiffen

Absent: Michelle Szelewski, Tim Wachter

MINUTES:

Jason Rodriguez would like to submit a proposal from LALSA
1. LALSA would like to invite Sean Carter, a humorist/lawyer, to speak on the topic of bias
  1. Title of talk would be “Can’t We All Just Get Along?”
2. They have requested assistance from BALSA, MALSA, APALSA, and Outlaw
  1. These groups can cover the cost of reception
3. Would like to request $2,500 from Speakers Trust
  1. We are waiting for more information
Tom Corbett
1. Michelle spoke with Tom Corbett’s scheduler
  1. April is the best month for him to speak
2. We would like invite him to speak on Monday, April 11
  1. April 18 would be an alternative date
Ms. Jacqueline Moudeina
1. We would like BALSA to itemize how much Amnesty International, the International Law Society, and the SBA will each contribute
2. Once we know that amount, we can determine how much Speakers Trust will contribute
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
1. The Miller Center, in conjunction with the Penn State Environmental Law Review, has arranged for Mr. Kennedy to speak on the importance of public interest and environmental law
  1. This is part of Public Interest Week
2. The total cost will be $18,000, but only $4,000 has been requested
3. Request approved
Prof. Haughney
1. Prof. Pearson will introduce Prof. Haughney
2. Only the reception is left to be planned

1. Ed Savage, Director of Alumni Relations, will sponsor a dinner or reception
