Panel Discussion on ADR — April 23, 2008

Students will be provided with a knowledge of a field of law that is beyond litigation, but that can profoundly effect their legal lives. ADR, and thus mediation, is one of the fastest growing areas in the law. DSL touts its reputation as a top ranked ADR teaching institution and this event enhances that image.

Members of the legal community will come in direct contact with the student body and their interest and knowledge in ADR will be evident. The speakers are involved in the decision making process of the court and their opinion and influence is highly regarded.

The Ball Storrow OutLaw Award for LGBT Civil Rights — April 23, 2008

This year, the student members and officers of OutLaw wanted to bestow an honor on Ms. Sobel for her longtime support of LGBT Civil Rights, including devoting her entire professional career towards that end. Additionally, we know that this is the last year that Professor Ball and Professor Storrow will be with us at Dickinson, so the award will be named in their honor: “The Ball Storrow OutLaw Award for LGBT Civil Rights”.

Ms. Sobel will not only discuss her professional path as an attorney, but will also speak about the current state of LGBT Civil Rights both nationally and within Pennsylvania. The event is expected to foster a stronger connection between the law school and the Equality Advocates. Second, many students — especially those in OutLaw — are very interested in learning more about this area of law and we hope it will be educational for them.
