After earning both a master’s degree in English
and a law degree from the University of Wisconsin,
Professor Muller-Peterson began her legal career as
a supervising attorney in a University of Wisconsin
clinical program followed by a federal court clerkship
in the Western District of Wisconsin. She then served
in the Office of General Counsel of the United States
Department of Agriculture and as executive director
of Legal Services, Inc. in Carlisle, PA, where she
administered a four-county legal services program
and developed considerable practice expertise in family,
public benefits and consumer protection law.
Professor Muller-Peterson not only puts her extensive
practice background to good use in our Legal Analysis
and Writing course and our Legal Problems of Indigents
course, she also has been a regular and productive
contributor to international legal dialogue through
publications and presentations on subjects such as
the child support obligations of a lesbian domestic
partner, domestic violence, and methods of teaching
legal analysis. In addition to her teaching and writing,
Professor Muller-Peterson serves the community by
her participation on the boards of a number of non-profit
organizations designed to assist victims of domestic
violence and people in poverty. In recognition of
her public interest law practice and community service,
Professor Muller-Peterson received the Sylvia H. Rambo
Award, presented by our Women’s Law Caucus to
a woman attorney who has contributed to the “advancement
of women in society.”
