Professor Eileen Kane holds a Ph.D. in molecular
biology from Cornell University, where she received
a research fellowship and the Vincent du Vigneaud
Award for Excellence in Research. She published scientific
papers in the Proceedings of the National Academy
of Sciences and the Journal of Virology and conducted
research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
in New York City. Her interest in the intersection
of science and the law led her to obtain a J.D. and
work as a scientific advisor and patent attorney in
a major New York City law firm.
As a professor at Penn State Dickinson, Professor
Kane continues to draw upon her scientific and legal
backgrounds, teaching a range of courses that blend
the latest scientific advancements and fast-paced
legal developments in biotechnology, the Internet,
patent law, and evidence. Her scholarship is focused
on biotechnology, including such issues as gene patenting
and DNA evidence. Professor Kane is registered before
the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
