Lucy Johnston-Walsh

Clinic Supervising Attorney

Education:
M.S.W., University of Pennsylvania
J.D., The Dickinson School of Law
B.S., Juniata College

Clinical Professor Lucy Johnston-Walsh has turned her passion for protecting children’s rights into one of the law school’s newest clinical endeavors, the Children's Advocacy Clinic. A former state and federal lobbyist for a child advocacy organization and past chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Children's Rights Committee, Professor Johnston-Walsh directs the clinic’s operations and supports its mission to serve children and advocate for legislative issues related to children in the welfare system. Under Professor Johnston-Walsh’s supervision, clinic students represent abused and neglected children as well as those involved in contested adoption and custody actions. Professor Johnston-Walsh was the 2007 recipient of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Child Advocate of the Year. She recently published, along with Katherine Pearson, "Partners in Outreach and Advocacy: Interdisciplinary Opportunities in University-Based Legal Clinics," Journal of Higher Education Outreach & Engagement, 2007. Prior to law school, Professor Johnston-Walsh, who holds a master’s in social work, served for several years as a social worker in the public school system of Virginia.
