Stanley M. Brand teaches the seminar course for the new Washington, D.C. semester internship program. Mr. Brand is a prominent Washington attorney whose experience working in high-level staff positions in Congress and on high-profile cases in private practice will give students exceptional insight into the law profession. The seminar focuses on a variety of topics related to the students’ internships.

In 1983, Mr. Brand founded Brand Law Group, a law firm based in Washington, D.C. His firm has represented corporations, trade associations, labor unions, and individuals in major justice departments, grand jury and independent counsel investigations and trial proceedings including Whitewater, HUD, the savings and loan crisis and the campaign finance task force investigations.

Mr. Brand previously served as general counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives, and was the chief legal officer responsible for representing the House, its members, officers and employees in connection with legal procedures and challenges to the conduct of their official activities. After leaving the House, Mr. Brand has had a succession of high profile, political and public corruption cases and clients, including former White House Aide George Stephanopoulos in the Whitewater investigation. Mr. Brand also has served as counsel to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, parliamentarian and counsel to the Democratic National Convention and vice-president of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues.

Mr. Brand was recently featured in The Washingtonian magazine’s 2002 survey of the seventy-five best lawyers in Washington.
