Stanley M. Brand teaches the seminar course for the
new Washington, D.C. semester internship program.
Mr. Brand is a prominent Washington attorney whose
experience working in high-level staff positions in
Congress and on high-profile cases in private practice
will give students exceptional insight into the law
profession. The seminar focuses on a variety of topics
related to the students’ internships.
In 1983, Mr. Brand founded Brand Law Group, a law
firm based in Washington, D.C. His firm has represented
corporations, trade associations, labor unions, and
individuals in major justice departments, grand jury
and independent counsel investigations and trial proceedings
including Whitewater, HUD, the savings and loan crisis
and the campaign finance task force investigations.
Mr. Brand previously served as general counsel to
the U.S. House of Representatives, and was the chief
legal officer responsible for representing the House,
its members, officers and employees in connection
with legal procedures and challenges to the conduct
of their official activities. After leaving the House,
Mr. Brand has had a succession of high profile, political
and public corruption cases and clients, including
former White House Aide George Stephanopoulos in the
Whitewater investigation. Mr. Brand also has served
as counsel to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters,
parliamentarian and counsel to the Democratic National
Convention and vice-president of the National Association
of Professional Baseball Leagues.
Mr. Brand was recently featured in The Washingtonian
magazine’s 2002 survey of the seventy-five best
lawyers in Washington.
