Navigational Aids

  1. This website is available in using either Internet Explorer or Mozilla.

  2. Table of Contents

At the top of the left frame is a “Table of Contents” link. This link opens the Table of Contents (shown in the left column) into a full window suitable for printing.

  3. Search By Page

Also in the left frame is a “Search by Page” link. This option allows you to find text in the web version that corresponds to a specific page in the printed version. Keep in mind, the page numbers at the bottom of the printed pages are not visible in the web version. However, when you choose a page number in the Search by Page option, you will jump directly to the very first line in the web version containing the first word on the printed page you selected.

  4. Printable Version

The “Printable Version” link allows you to print the book in Chapter format.

In order to assure that your printed copy maintains the correct page numbers, it is important that you print the chapters using the links in the "Printable Version" section.

    1. The printed format is available in the PDF format, which will allow you to print an entire chapter or selected pages within a chapter.

    2. If you do not have Adobe Reader installed on your computer, go to www.adobe.com to download Adobe Reader.

  5. Using the links found within the text.

LEXIS - This icon will open the LEXIS database. Once in the database, you will need a LEXIS Password to proceed. The LEXIS links allows you to automatically access the case listed prior to the icon.

FOOTNOTE - This icon opens a separate window in which the footnote text has been placed.

TRANSCRIPT - This icon connects to the transcript of the oral argument. Some of the transcripts have been transcribed and placed in the book by the author. However, there are many transcripts that are accessed through the LEXIS database. For those accessed via LEXIS, you must have a LEXIS password.

BRIEFS - This icon connects to the Briefs database in LEXIS. In order to access the Briefs you must have a LEXIS password.

Additional Tips for Ease of Use

    • The table of contents is in the frame on the left side of the page and the text of the book is in the frame on the right. All items listed in the Table of Contents are hyperlinked. When you click on a link, (a chapter title, case name, etc.) the section will appear in the right frame. You can also navigate through the chapters by using the scroll bar on the right side of the frame.

    • If you prefer not to see the table of contents, you may resize the horizontal border between the left and right frames by positioning your cursor over the border ( until it becomes a double headed arrow) and dragging the border to make the TOC frame smaller.
