Washington, D.C. Semester Program
Third-year Penn State Dickinson students enrolled in the Washington, D.C. Semester program spend the final semester of law school working for a government agency or a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C. The experience provides advanced training and research opportunities to deepen students’ understanding of their areas of interest and serves as a “capstone semester” for coursework already completed during law school. Students are encouraged to apply for internships that are related to their prior studies at the law school and their future career goals.
Students accepted to the program are required to participate in a 10-credit supervised internship, working approximately 32 hours per week with an approved government or non-profit agency. Students must also take a 2-credit hour seminar on federal regulatory and legislative practice taught by Stanley Brand, a prominent Washington attorney and former general counsel to the United States House of Representatives. See where our students have interned.
Students who plan to participate in the Washington, D.C. Semester Program must receive approval by the Registrar and complete an information sheet that must be approved by the internship supervisor. For more information, contact Professor Lance Cole or Professor Camille Marion.
