Students interested in completing their final two years at Penn State Dickinson may apply for enrollment in the second-year class as transfer students, provided they are in good academic standing at an ABA-approved law school. To earn a J.D. from Penn State, a student must earn at least 56 credits from The Dickinson School of Law and must attend Dickinson for at least four of the six semesters for which residence credit is claimed.
The online application for transfer students is available from May 1 through July 31. There is no application fee to apply. To receive this fee waiver, when applying electronically indicate that you will be submitting payment via check. Print and sign the "certification statement" and mail without payment to the Admissions Office. You must complete the application and submit the following information no later than July 15:
- a law school transcript with an entire first year of academic work;
- a letter of good standing upon the completion of your first year of academic work from an academic dean at the law school you seek transfer from. The letter should also include your class rank and identify any disciplinary charges that have been brought or are pending against you;
- at least one letter of recommendation (preferably two) from law school faculty.
And, unless, you have applied to Penn State Dickinson within the last three years, you will also need to submit:
- your LSDAS report from the Law School Admission Council;
- a copy of your final transcript from your undergraduate degree granting school.
Decisions regarding transfer status are usually made in mid- to late-July. Students accepted for transfer are instructed to schedule an appointment with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to plan their course of study. Transfer applicants who are interested in competing for law review membership are instructed to visit the Law Reviews' Collective Policy Regarding Transfer Students.
