Penn State Dickinson 2008 Alternative Break Trip to New Orleans
- Sunday, January 6 to Saturday, January 12 (working Monday through Friday) — FYI, the spring semester begins on Monday, January 14.
- We will be assisting the Student Hurricane Network (www.studenthurricanenetwork.com), a national association dedicated to providing long-term assistance to communities affected by Hurricane Katrina.
- SHN volunteers are law students who work throughout the Gulf Coast doing legal work for public interest organizations to serve causes such as legal aid, criminal justice, civil rights, legislative advocacy, immigration, fair housing, capital punishment, juvenile justice and more! Over 3,000 law students have traveled down to the Bayou over winter, spring and summer breaks to lend their legal skills over the past two years.
- PSU — DSL, in coordination with the Miller Center for Public Interest Advocacy, the Student Bar Association and alumni, has TEN spaces available for interested students from the law school.
- We hope to raise enough funds to cover housing, meals and transportation in New Orleans. You are responsible for (at least) your round-trip airfare or other form of transportation to and from New Orleans (around $250 Harrisburg/New Orleans). Professors are also welcome to join us as supervising attorneys, but will be in charge of their own funding, housing and transportation.
- Stay tuned for an informational meeting in October with more details and how to apply. The deadline to sign-up is Thursday, November 1. Please e-mail Melissa Tanguay or Andrea Miller for additional information.
